FAQs
The questions people are afraid to ask.
Honest answers. If yours isn’t here, message me and ask. There are no silly questions about this.
Before you start
Doubts are normal.
Does therapy actually work?
For most people, yes, and there is a lot of research behind that. But it is not a magic potion. It works when you show up regularly, are honest, and are willing to look at things that are uncomfortable. My job is to make it feel safe enough for you to do so.
Is my problem serious enough for therapy?
If it is bothering you, it is serious enough. Therapy is not only for crisis or for “serious mental illness”. You don’t have to wait until things fall apart. Many people come simply because they are tired of feeling the way they feel.
How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?
You won’t know until you’ve had a few sessions with me and can see whether this is going to work in the long run, because therapy can be a lengthy process. Notice whether you feel listened to and whether you could be honest with me. If it doesn’t feel like the right fit, you can tell me, and there are no hard feelings. If I see it first, I’ll say so. Either way, I’ll help you find someone who could be.
Will you tell me what to do?
No. As a therapist, my role isn’t to hand you solutions, or to give advice the way friends and family do. It is to help you see your situation more clearly, so the decisions you make are really yours.
Is what I say confidential? What will people think?
What you tell me stays with me. And nobody, not even your family or employer, is told that you see me or what we talk about. The only exception is a serious and immediate risk to your life or someone else’s, and I would talk to you first. Online sessions mean nobody even has to see you walk into a clinic.
What does it cost?
I share my fees in our first message or chat, before you commit to anything. There is no obligation and no sales talk. Fees are different for clients in India and clients abroad.
I don’t have time. How much does it take?
About 50 minutes a session, usually once a week to begin with. Online sessions remove the travel, so many people fit it into a lunch break or an evening. We can space sessions out once things feel steadier.
What happens in the first session?
Sessions are 50 minutes long, online or in person in Delhi NCR. There are no tests, no complicated exercises, and no formalities. You tell me what’s brought you here, in whatever order it comes out. I listen and ask questions, and together we start making sense of it. See the four steps.
Online or in person: which is better?
Both work well. Online suits people outside Delhi NCR, people abroad, and anyone who wants privacy or has little time. In person suits people who find it easier to open up in a room. You can switch between them.
Which languages do you work in?
English and Hindi. Most people end up moving between the two without thinking about it, and that is completely fine. Say it in whichever language it comes out.
Do you work with children or teenagers?
I work with people aged 18 and above. For anyone younger, I’m happy to suggest colleagues who work with children and teenagers.
What happens if you feel I might benefit from psychiatric support or medication?
If, during our work together, I feel that a psychiatric consultation could be helpful, I’ll discuss it with you and may refer you to a psychiatrist from my professional network. This doesn’t mean therapy has to stop. Therapy and psychiatric care can often continue alongside each other when appropriate.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens. Tell me as early as you can, ideally a day before, and we will find another time. We go over the details before your first session so there are no surprises.
The first step
One message. That is all it takes to start.
Tell me your name and what you’d like support with. You’ll hear back about availability and fees, and we take it from there. No obligation.
